MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

The Heavy Constructors Association of the Greater Kansas City Area (HCA), founded in 1950, is a charter chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). The membership totals approximately 150 companies, comprised of contractors, specialty contractors, major suppliers, suppliers and affiliate members.

We are an  active association in the Kansas City metropolitan area and in the states of Kansas and Missouri.  The HCA is a recognized leader in the campaign for higher investments in public works.

We are active politically, providing support to candidates for public office at the federal, state, county and city levels in both Kansas and Missouri.  Additionally, and most importantly, we maintain close contact with public officials.

We provide social settings for our members to meet informally. These include our annual banquet, attended by 500 people including local and state public works officials and mayors; our annual Sports Day and Safety Awards program, where members compete in our  annual Sports Day golf tournament before meeting for the Safety Awards banquet to recognize HCA members for their excellence in construction safety. We continue to host the HCA's Employee Appreciation Night at Kauffman Stadium, where annually over 5,000 employees  and their families are our guests at a Kansas City Royals baseball game. The HCA also has an annual Affiliate Golf Tournament, where affiliate members invite contractor members for  a day of lunch and golf followed by a reception.

The HCA  has 11 standing committees that cover a range of areas. These committees are: Affiliate,  Contract/Specifications, EEO/MBE /WBE, Education/Scholarships, Insurance, Labor, Legislative, Membership, Political Action, Public Relations, and Safety Committees. All members are encouraged to participate on these committees.

Membership Classifications

Contractor: Contractors bidding on and performing work covered by HCA Union Agreements.

Specialty  Contractor: Subcontractors bidding on and performing contracts not covered by HCA  Union Agreements, i.e. companies that do traffic control, painting, striping, guard rail,  fence, seeding, sodding, sweeping electrical, maintenance, etc...

Supplier: Companies supplying goods, i.e. suppliers of concrete, forms, geotextile fabrics,  drainage products, and other related products, equipment, fly ash, pipe, stone, etc...

Affiliate: Companies providing a service, i.e. insurance companies, banks, accounting firms,  oils & lubricants, law firms, auctioneers, etc...

Major  Supplier: An affiliate or supplier member classification company may voluntarily become a major supplier member.
 

Contractor membership information: Our dues structure is predicated on ten cents (.10) per hour, per man, per craft, utilized on jobs in our area. Our area includes Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas; and Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri. Dues are payable monthly and our minimum annual dues are $250.00. In addition, the HCA requires its members to belong to the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) whose minimum contractor dues are $425.00 per year, which covers one million dollars in volume. Each additional hundred thousand dollars in volume costs $15.00, up to a maximum of $7,500.00 per year.

Specialty Contractor membership information: Annual membership dues for specialty contractors are $1150  which are payable to the HCA. National dues are waived if they have been paid through another AGC Chapter.

Supplier membership  information: Annual membership dues for suppliers are $625 payable to the HCA.

Affiliate membership information: Annual membership dues for affiliates are $475 dues which are payable to the HCA. The national dues are waived if they have been paid  through another AGC Chapter.

Major supplier membership  information: Major  Supplier membership is voluntary. Companies eligible for affiliate or supplier membership  may become major supplier members. The annual membership dues are $1125 which are payable to the HCA. Major Supplier members receive special notice at all functions via sign recognition.
